A memorial to the victims and a visual reconstruction of Bam's lost
heritage. At least 42,000 people have been confirmed dead as a result
of December's tragic earthquake. Over 70% of the city's buildings were
destroyed, including one of Iran's architectural and cultural jewels:
the ancient walled city built entirely of mudbrick, unique in the
world. The costs of rebuilding are estimated at $1 billion.
